There are several organizations at work in Northwest Detroit and other areas (e.g., Motor City Blight Busters, Northwest Detroit Neighborhood Development, Habitat for Humanity, and the Detroit Project at the University of Michigan) that are hard at work in attempting to make neighborhoods in Detroit safer and assist with the construction of affordable housing. These groups would definitely be able to do more with assistance from the United Way.
