Help a Family Build a Home
Your Gift Can Open Doors

Economic Empowerment is Virtually Impossible
Statistics show an alarming number of families fare poorly when it comes to personal savings, asset management and educational attainment. With no tangible assets, few money management skills and limited education, economic empowerment is virtually impossible for a large percentage of metro Detroit families.

We Make it Possible
United Way's Individual Development Account (IDA) program can change that by making it possible for low-income individuals across Wayne, Oakland and Macomb counties to buy a first home. The United Way IDA program works with area partners to help individuals save money, manage the asset responsibly and, in return, match the savings. Click here to learn more about the IDA program.

You Can Help
Over the past few years, Habitat for Humanity has built nearly 100 new homes for low-income individuals in Detroit's Tri-Centennial Village, located near old Tiger stadium. Almost 80% of the homeowners living in these new homes used an IDA to get themselves into the home. With IDAs, United Way is opening doors to opportunity and you can too by making a contribution to the United Way.
