Transforming the Detroit Region will require a new set of behaviors on the part of everyone.  In the spirit of One D, all residents, businesses, elected officials, media and organizations will:

Focus on the power of one voice, the common good of the region rather than individual interests

Take ownership of the region’s future

  • Use positive language about our community
  • Raise the profile of work done by political, business and civic leaders to advance regional goals
  • Practice effective governance and leadership of our respective organizations, to build community sustainability

Encourage regional thinking in every sector; private, public and non-profit

  • Encourage government units to align policies, programs and resources around regional priorities
  • Promote consolidation of governmental services
  • Encourage the private sector to invest in programs that advance the regional priorities and reduce duplication
  • Encourage the news media to promote assets within the region and highlight the progress being made in the region.
  • Leverage private and public leadership to keep companies here in Southeast Michigan, helping them with solution, removing barriers
  • Demonstrate how partnerships can work in the public/private sector for the regional good by highlighting innovative programs

Respect each other as equal partners

  • Adopt inclusiveness and racial diversity as core community assets
  • Hold each other accountable for achieving established goals

Reduce duplication of efforts to better utilize limited resources

  • Integrate work plans across regional private, public and non-profit organizations
  • Develop innovative partnership between county and city lines to achieve regional goals
