Transforming the Detroit Region will require a new set of behaviors on the part of everyone. In the spirit of One D, all residents, businesses, elected officials, media and organizations will:
Focus on the power of one voice, the common good of the region rather than individual interests
Take ownership of the region’s future
- Use positive language about our community
- Raise the profile of work done by political, business and civic leaders to advance regional goals
- Practice effective governance and leadership of our respective organizations, to build community sustainability
Encourage regional thinking in every sector; private, public and non-profit
- Encourage government units to align policies, programs and resources around regional priorities
- Promote consolidation of governmental services
- Encourage the private sector to invest in programs that advance the regional priorities and reduce duplication
- Encourage the news media to promote assets within the region and highlight the progress being made in the region.
- Leverage private and public leadership to keep companies here in Southeast Michigan, helping them with solution, removing barriers
- Demonstrate how partnerships can work in the public/private sector for the regional good by highlighting innovative programs
Respect each other as equal partners
- Adopt inclusiveness and racial diversity as core community assets
- Hold each other accountable for achieving established goals
Reduce duplication of efforts to better utilize limited resources
- Integrate work plans across regional private, public and non-profit organizations
- Develop innovative partnership between county and city lines to achieve regional goals
